Today's vehicles require services beyond physical repairs. We offer a variety of services including Diagnostics, ADAS Insights, Calibrations, Programming, Initialization and much more. We are a fully licensed and insured facility. Our Certified Technicians use OEM Factory Scan Tools to insure the most accurate diagnostic information.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) provide drivers with warnings and assistance with maneuvers that could result in collisions either with other vehicles on the road, pedestrians, or static obstacles. ADAS has become a comprehensive term for systems that utilize sensors, radars, lasers, ultrasound, and cameras.
ADAS can include the following systems shown below.
ADAS Calibration Is Necessary
Ensure the accuracy and proper functioning of advanced driver assistance systems in vehicles. The systems rely on cameras, sensors, and radar to provide features like lane keep assist, autonomous braking, and adaptive cruise control. Misaligned or incorrectly calibrated sensors can lead to inaccurate readings, potentially causing the car to malfunction or read inappropriately to road hazards.
Duty of Care
If a body shop fails to perform or incorrectly perform ADAS Calibrations, the liability falls directly on the shop. If an accident occurs due to a malfunctioning ADAS System caused by improper failure to perform calibrations, the shop could face legal consequences and reputational damage.
Insurance Industry Standards
The insurance Industry holds repair facilities accountable for ADAS faults. This means your shop could be liable and incur costly legal battles should an accident occur.
OEM Requirements
Original Equipment Manufacturers frequently require certain ADAS systems must be recalibrated after specific repairs, and your shop is expected to follow these OEM guidelines.
Precision Calibration now specializes in Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibrations particularly for Tesla Vehicles. We offer services to recalibrate and update the AutoPilot System ensuring it operates safely and effectively. This includes specialized training for technicians to calibrate Tesla's two-step process, including scanning support for all other Tesla functionality.
To perform accurate ADAS calibrations, a shop requires a workspace that is generally 25-40 feet long and 15-30 feet wide, depending on the specific calibration needs and equipment used. Some calibrations, like forward-facing camera and radar, may only require 10-30 feet of space in front of the vehicle. Dynamic calibrations, which involve road testing, necessitate a suitable roadway with specific conditions. Here at Precision Calibration our dedicated calibration facility
bays are 30’ by 50’. This work space allows for various calibration needs and allows vehicle repositioning as necessary during the process.
The majority of vehicles start with static calibration. Static ADAS Calibration takes place in a controlled environment while the car is stationary. ADAS static Calibration uses special tools in a specially rendered environment to precisely set sensor angles. For proper static calibrations, technicians need::
Dynamic Calibrations require suitable road conditions with clear lane markings,
appropriate highway speeds with limited traffic as required by each individual
OEM. Many of these dynamic calibrations can take up to 3 hours by a certified
technician to complete the drive cycle to ensure the vehicle is in the correct state
to complete the calibration.
Roadside or cluttered shops attempting ADAS calibrations can face significant issues, including misaligned sensors, inaccurate calibrations, and potential liability if accidents occur due to malfunctioning safety features. These problems arise due to lack of suitable environments, interference from from sunlight, wind, etc.
If a vehicle involved in an accident has improperly calibrated ADAS systems, the repair shop could face liability if it's determined that the malfunction contributed to the accident. Customers may also seek accountability if safety features fail to work as intended.
